IS YOUR WEBSITE BLACKLISTED? GOOGLE ADDS 40,000 PER WEEK
Thursday, November 5th, 2009
How does your website become blacklisted by Google, Yahoo, Firefox and Internet Explorer?
1. You send out spam email
Sending out unwanted spam email is a sure-fire way to get blacklisted quickly. Instead of focusing on numbers of emails sent, create great content that your subscribers will want to read and share with others. Building your subscriber base will take time and effort. No easy street available.
2. You use Blackhat SEO Techniques
If you or your SEO hired firm are using Blackhat ( cheating) SEO techniques, this too can cause your website to be blacklisted. When Search Engines crawl the web and land on your website it can detect these methods and will penalize your page ranking if not completely ban you from the search results. Getting the Search Engine to re-index your website is very time consuming.
3. Your site is infected with malware code
Your website can get infected in many ways but let me keep it simple. Third party widgets, an example might be a “Traffic Counter” button you upload to your site. The widget “works” , it does the counting, but behind the scenes it is taking ALL the information from your visitors to your site. You could end up liable for this . Our advice, use trusted widgets only.
Other examples that might cause your website to be infected : Compromised web server, Malicious Advertisements, Compromised admin credentials to your website to name a few….
Security and monitoring of your website is a much overlooked issue by most. As more E-Commerce shops open, the threat levels will increase leaving many vulnerable. Cookee uses and recommends www.dasient.com to monitor your web properties . We have spoken with the management of Dasient and are most impressed with their current roster of products and their vision and pipeline for future releases.
